12 Days of Creepmas- Day 4

Here we go with the 4th day of Creepmas from Smeared and Smudged
I saw THIS fabulous little Mad Hatter Hat online at Regina's blog and had to have a play!
I decided to combine Regina's hat template with Tim Holtz's foil tape method and create something grungy and Steampunk:
I first covered a piece of cardstock with sections of foil tape and embossed them with different scratches and stud marks- easy to do with a soft pencil or metal foil working tools.
I then brushed on a thin coat of black acrylic and left it to dry.
Take a piece of sandpaper and rub over the surface which brings out he silver of the foil while leaving black paint in the crevices like oil!
I then used Regina's template and cut out the hat pieces and glued them together with hot glue.
Finally I added some Tim Holtz tinsel, an ideaology mini cog and some QuicKutz holly leaves cut from foil coloured with a Copic Marker.
And ta-da!!

This is teeny too- it's less than 2 inches high, I love really diddy things!

Now that is cool! I love your process and the materials you've chosen. Working the paint into the metallic surface has created a fantastic machine-grunge effect. Love it!

I've added your pic to the Seeing Things facebook page, must show off your project!
