Collectively Yours is taking a break for the summer as lots of us are on hols, tending children/ pups and other assorted animules and generally enjoying brief periods of sunshine *snorts derisively here*
Seriously though, with so little of the 'yellow stuff' in the sky you have to dash out and prance round in it any chance you get!!!

We will be back with the Dares refreshed and bubbling with Mojo inspiring ideas in September -ahhh I LOVE Autumn so much!!!
Here are some of the Dares that I did whilst I was being a puppy wrangler and badly neglecting my Blog- Sorrrrrreeeeee!!!!! *apologetic grin*

Dares were to use Monochromatics- there's a blast from the past!! I remember when the Bazzill monos came out- I'm afraid I am a Patterned Paper girl and I really struggled to use the Monos first time around! My take on this challenge was to use mono PP's for my LO for this challenge as I do like my PP's and filling up space- try as I might I don't seem to be able to leave 'white space' alone!!! Hee-hee I couldn't let it lie!!! More is MORE in my book!!

Speaking of Patterned Paper-we were challenged to use FOUR or more patterned papers on one LO. I loved this piccies My Big Sis' took of my nephew and me playing Boxing on the Nintendo Wii. I had some beautiful 7gypsies papers which went with the piccies nicely and co-ordinated with one another. I used small strips of papers in some areas- to show you don't have to have BIG blocks of PP's on a page

Our last challenge before our break was to use Die Cuts. I will put my hands up to being a QuicKutz fan!! I had this great pics of the 'Blonde One' and 'Miss Acorn' messing around in the rain to lracous renderind of Rhianna's 'Under my Umberella-ella-ella' *giggle* please note the use of 'JAZZ hands' by DD whilst performing- a future lovie perhaps??!

Things they don't include in the books!!!!

..never owned a dog before (my Mum wasn't into that sort of thing!!) and I've made LOTS of discoveries, NONE of which were mentioned in the extensive list of books I read:-

~Puppies fart...enough to stink out a room!
~Puppies love veggies!
~My puppy eats her own pooh (ugh)
~We cheered when Willow buried then FOUND her first item (OK it was only a carrot!!)
~Puppies sleep a lot
~Puppies snore!
~Having a puppy makes you a magnet for everyone and strangers talk to you...well to the puppy!!!
~Beagles have BIG ears that soak up water from their bowl and transports it around the house!!
~Willow loves drinking from the end of the hose...a puddle...buckets almost anywhere OTHER than her nice clean drinking water.
~Puppies chew...ALL THE TIME!
~Puppies are unbelievably adorable
~Puppies are unbelievably annoying
~Puppies are unbelievably funny
~People walking their dogs in the park are REALLY helpful and full of kind words for nervous new puppy owners.
~Puppies like Lego (children are NOT keen on this)
~Willow loves sleeping behind the TV
~Willow sunbathes
~Beagles NEVER lift their nose off the ground except to eat something
~Willow kisses us
~Willow sucks my fingers when she's sleepy
~Willow makes groany noises when tired
~We love Willow and can't imagine her not being in our family

Doctor Whooooooooooo!!!

Well this may have been a Doctor-lite episode but we LOVED IT!!!
'Weeping Angels' scared the flippin' pants off us all!!! The idea of statues coming to life and diappearing peeps to the past was fantastic. I admit a soft spot for time travel stories- loved them from Star Trek TNG. It was brilliantly handled by Stephen Moffat in Doctor Who (who interestingly also wrote the other VERY scarey Who episode 'The Empty Child' and 'The Doctor Dances')
The episode didn't suffer for lack of the Doctor or Martha but then neither did the last series' episode 'Monsters and Angels' (Angels again??!!!) the casting was brilliant and I guess strong leads as well as great stort lines are the key to preventing the episode fropm suffering from lack of the effervescent David Tennant!
Sally Sparrow was a lovely character beautifully and deftly protrayed- she was a real'do-er' in the story moving the action along and using her brain, doing a lot of the work for the Doctor!
I chortled at the Doctor's explanation of the complexities of Time- a 'bubble full of Timey Wimey stuff' was a class line and is oft repeated in our Old Oak Tree!!
Oh BILLY!!! What can I say except poor Billy- he was there for such a short time but played with such extrovert fun that we loved him immediately and felt crushed at what happened- there were tears 'when the rain ended' *sniffs*
Larry was a lovely comedic foil for Sally's 'up and at 'em' but not a fool that you had no sympathy with. We all cheered for Sally and Larry but the montage at the end with the statues was a GREAT creepy ending that had us all looking over our shoulders!!

So there has been much standing still with hands over eyes here in the Tree to creep sisters and brothers out *snicker* ahhhh the joys of scarey Doctor Who episodes!!
Still We're nearly the end of the series *eek* only three episodes to go and Captain Jack is back on Saturday hooray but watch out Martha!!

Dare 57- Hidden Journalling.

You don't ALWAYS want your your journalling to be on show- maybe you're shy, maybe it's personal but whatever the reason you can always use the hidden journalling method.
There are many different ways of hiding your writing the easiest is probably using a tag which can be tucked behind your photo.

Madness struck last night!

I don't know what happened but after a restless day I overcame my fear and aversion to exercise and went to the pool to join the other ladies of Middlesham for a swim!! I have not swum for about 9 years but I remembered how to do it!! "DH" had said it was 'like riding a bike' and I'd be fine! I pointed out I hadn't ridden a bike since I was seventeen and did that entail the possibility of drowning??!! I always was and probably always will be a sarki mare!!
I swam lengths for 30mins and really enjoyed myself. It was interesting being with just ladies- as there was no racing or competitiveness of any type! Sedate lengths with conversation-rather nice really! My fave thing strangely enough was floating on my back in the deep end-I must have looked a loon with a goofy grin on my face- but it felt so otherworldly somehow!!

My aversion to exercise has come from 2 things- asthma and my hot thing! I always struggled to breathe and any exercise would just reduce me to a wheeze, frightening and not conducive to prancing around!! However our new Doc put me on magical TURBOHALER (superhero music) which has reduced my asthma to 'not there' status except if I have a cold- so that's COOL!
The second is genetic. I think my body embraces the Irishness of my genetics a little too enthusiastically at times. I look like an upside down pint of Guinness for starters! Then there's the fact I cannot cope with any temp about about 21degrees centigrade without breaking out into huge sweats accommpanied by a beet red face *sigh*
I remember when i was 16 or so going to play badminton with my Mum. I was very fit then and was able to play happily for an hour or so. However the LOOK of me would have made yu think I was a heart attack victim- sweating madly, BRIGHT red face- whereas my Ma (who was a lady of 50plus) was as fresh as a daisy!!

So I hate this getting hot thing- I mean I HATE it- It's embarrassing and I feel awful as it takes me an age to cool down! So swimming seemed perfect- who sweats with swimming??
I DO!!!!!
I was getting dried off and it started *rolleyes*
I perspired copiously all the way home and my face felt like it was BURNING with heat!!
Still I slumped during 'Hustle' and eventually cooled off and went for a shower!!
WHAT am I like???!!! *grin*

Still I REALLY loved the feeling of swimming and will go again!

Woo-Hoo!!!

As an extra special birthday treat we decided to go and visit the puppies! Moma Beagle adored 'DH' and sat in front of him for ages lapping up ear tickles!! This was a Beagle that was supposed to be a bit funny with chaps at the mo!! 'DH' was a big hit though!! The pups were roly-poly bellies with ickle leggies! They did a lot of snoozing then some slurping then some widdling (getting house trained already!) and then after some rolling a bit more snozzing!
It was realy lovely to see the pups with Mama made having one of the girls more real. We were lucky to aquire a crate from the breeder so we can make a snuggly den when pups comes home in 5 weeks!! I see life having some big chages ahead for us!! COOL!

Using Felt- Dare 56

To be honest I was REALLY looking forward to this Dare- I think I had it planned in my head ages ago!! I've loved making my felt mascots from my Japanese Book and this Giraffe just HAD to go with this piccie of 'The Blonde One' with his friend on Christmas morning!!! He loves his soft toys and I love any excuse to buy them!!

Dare 55- HOW Many Photos??!!!

The challenge this week was to produce a multiphoto layout. Our trip to LegoLand was great fun and we had a fab time despite the rain (true Brit stiff and damp upper lip!!)
There are 15 photos on this layout!! Most were printed in 2.5" x 3.5" format and a few were slightly larger and were cut out to add variety and get away from too many rectangles!
Then the photos were collaged onto the layout. I found it easier to move them around until I liked the placement and then lift each one and stick it down.

Dare 54 Lavish use of....

Well it HAD to be GLITTER for me didn't it?!!! Tee-Hee!!!

Lucky enough to have had a Craft Central open up her near the Oak Tree and I found this cute £1.99 Balsa wood chest. I splooshed on purlple, pink and blue pearlescent paints
and then attacked it with TONNES of glitter!
After allowing to dry I added various Basic Grey rub ons and a few pearls for extra sparkle.

Felt Fun and Pokemon!!

We love Pokemon in our house and wanting to get back to some toy making I decided to purchase a lovely Japanese book that combined both.
I think I originally saw a similar book on Etsy which had pages of these teeny cute felt 'mascot' dolls. As I looked into it I realised just how many books were published in Japan with the CUTEST pocket sized dolls/toys and other mascots- just adorable!
I was really pleased to find a book entitled '190 Felt Mascots' available from a lovely lady on ebay who sent the book from Japan. Yes the book is in Japanese and delightfully you start from the back of the book and work forwards- obvious if you KNOW that Japanese scans from right to left but still lovely to see IRL! The patterns in the book are clearly drawn along with the diagrams making language skills redundant, although I have fathomed the Kanji for 'ear' , 'eye' and 'glue'. Admitedly these are not going to be of any use to me should I be lost in Japan but it made me happy!!!
'The Blonde One' had a go at making a felPublisht mascot and created a very cute Pokemon character called Apom from the monkey pattern! He's starting his second one tomorrow!

Transparent Experiment!!!

The challenge this week on Collectively Yours was to utilise a Transparent element on your layout. Here I printed an X-Ray onto acetate and framed it with complementary black and white papers. The journalling consisted of emails about the X-Ray and the situation hat arose. It was nice to be able to show the X-Ray off in this way as it's a very dramatic image.

Eurovision Tonight!!

When it was announced last Saturday that Doctor Who would be returning in TWO WEEKS there was much Booing and cat calling in our house!
But I suppose that if it has to be bumped I'd rather it was for a great night's madness like The Eurovision Song Contest. Good Luck to the Ultra Camp UK entry Scooch. 'DH' and I cheered loudly when they got through as our entry as they provided much entertainment and full on performance!! It can't do any worse than Daz and his chorus of umpteenagers can it??!
The Hero of the evening and the REAL reason we watch Eurovision is dear Old Sir Tel, Terry Wogan. There's a lovely piece on teh BBC News website that sums him up perfectly;
"Sir Terry has been the UK's bemused guide to the Eurovision since the 1970s, and the permanent TV commentator since 1980.

His gentle jibes and professional bewilderment are now as much a part of the competition as the ridiculous costumes and nonsensical lyrics.

I admit I am one of Terry's Young Gals and have been since his very earliest days on the Radio2 when my Mother listened on our battered radio on the kitchen window sill. The great thing is now I can inflict Terry's mad musings on my own children, trapped as they are each morning in the car Bwahahahahaha!

Great Celebrating in our House!!

The 'Boy with the Hair' has overcome his nerves and with great determination cycled without stabilisers!!
With a little help (mostly pretend!) from Daddy he rode alone! This left him feeling much more positive about the whole riding experience and will no doubt lead to more solo bike riding.

I managed to stab myself twice after being distracted for a second- so good going by my standards!!

MOVE THAT BUS!!!!!

Hooray the new series of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is showing! I sit and I marvel at the families and the builders and the houses and blub at the stories- wonderful life affirming tv- LOVE IT!!!
I watched the Thomas family episodes yesterday (yay for Sky+) and saw that our own Limey Ed Sanders did a very silly thing. Ed mashed his hand good and proper bu I see from his blog that whilst messy his hand is recovering and happily he is still helping families with the team!
Great people, great programme, lovely joy making stuff!!

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary

Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.


Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. B*******s! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.


Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...

Loving Doctor Who!

'DH' and I didn't see the first series of the New Doctor Who the first time around. I think after the fiasco of the Who series in the 1980's I was afraid that it would be another thrown together jokey sci-fi programme without substance. However we did start catching up with Christopher Ecclestone et al on good old BBC3 and were soon hooked.
It's great to have a series that the WHOLE family can enjoy together- such a rare thing these days but HOORAY for the BBC for their Saturday evening scheduling!
Been loving series 3 so far. Freema Agyeman is great as the Doctor's new companion and so completely different from Rose. The Doctor and Martha get off to a great start in Smith & Jones when the hospital Martha works in is transported to the moon!
The Shakespeare Code was a great rollicking Doctor Who gone back in time adventure peppered with Shakespearean puns galore- fantastic. Shakespeare was a big old Rock 'n' Roll star of the Globe theatre making him seem glamorous and exciting for the audience!
Gridlock was back to New Earth in the year 5million AD and a grim view of the future it was. The lower orders were stuck for years on 'The Motorway' trying to escape the grind to get to a Utopia they believed existed in the suburbs.
This week's episode was the first of a two parter featuring the badest villains of all time the Daleks. Aided and abetted by the Pig People the Daleks have a dastedly plan (don't they always!) to take their evolution to the next level at the expense of the human race. 1930's Manhatten provides a great backdrop for the story and I can't wait to find out what happens next week!

I'm REALLY enjoying the Dr Who Podcasts by the cast and crew available from the BBC website or on iTunes. Free to download they provide a running audio commentary to each episode frpm Series 2 onwards. I have to say the content varies with each podcast depending on who is providing the commentary. Watch out for those episodes narrated by David Tennant, Russell T Davies and Phil Collinson. They are a scream to listen to and I have found myself chortling away at their asides musch to the bemused looks of my poor family! Even if you are not watching the series simultaneously you will be sure to enjoy the banter!

April Play Time!!!

At last I felt like playing with my April ScrapaGoGo kit and what a lush kit it is too- so fresh and spring like! 'Little Miss Acorn' had a busy day the other day first her LARGE upper tooth came out and then her lower tooth came out (at last!) and she was truely 'Gappy McGappy' !
I sneaked some glitter onto the LO on the lovely chipboard frame around the tooth!

Kicking 60's Soul Style

I LOVE the funky 60's sould beats from Mark Ronson's new album 'Version'. An Instrumental of Coldplay's 'God Put a Smile On Your Face' will have you moving your feet. To be honest it is SO good you'd think Chris Martin had done the covering of a Soul Original!
Love the lush vocals of Daniel Merriweather on 'Stop Me' amazingly a Smith cover (never been a fan!). Again a band who've never done much for 'Radiohead' have been funked up by Ronson and the laid back voice of Alex Greenwald in 'Just'.
Mark Ronson's style is nothing new Soul Coughing in the 1990's, among others have been combining delish soul beats and funkilicious trumpet and sax breaks with an uptempo beat- but I love it!

April's lushy kit arrived on Tuesday *happy dance* a beautiful kit! I get to play with the fabby Doodle Templates and scrap with the delish fresh green papers- very apt for Spring! AND there is the glitteriest pen in the WORLD in the kit- the glitter practically DRIPS off it- fab!!

Dare 49 - It Makes It's Home in...

I knew straightaway what I was going to do with this Dare.
At one time DS was refusing to have his hair cut and as it was SO thick we told him that you could see badgers and bees moving into it thinking it was a hedgerow!!
When DS was cross we'd say the Badgers were snarling at us!!
All this kinda stuck and even he talks about the badgers in his hair!!

Dare 47 - Makeover!

Dare 47 was a chance for us to do a Makeover.
I took some Prima-like flowers and a QuicKutz paper person and turned them into a little flower imp!

so those beads I mentioned.......

....to celebrate the books being published (and getting paid!) I decided to treat myself to some of Jaq's gorgeous new Dolly Beads. The previous week I'd seen the debut of these beauties on Jaq's site- the colours and drops of silver and silver wire encassed within the glass was magical!
As my original Dollies were all shades of pinks and purples and I REALLY wanted some of Jaq's green and blue beads I decided to start another bracelet!
I used Jaq's beautiful photos of her beads as I am pants at photographing them and wanted to show you how beautiful they are! Aren't they magical?!!

I am LOVING this kit!!!! These rich red and blue papers were perfect for this photo of 'Little Miss Acorn' taking a nap! It had been AGES since she'd fallen asleep in the afternoon but after a hot and busy day she totally flaked out.
Of course it's one of the stages of growing up when your children drop that afternoon anp and I admit to feeling a little nostalgic for it.
Of course the downside it that even if they close their eyes for five minutes it sems to give them BOUNDLESS energy and they can stay up until REALLY late- HOW do they do that??!

Books and Beads.

I am PLEASED to announce that Search Press has released two new books edited by Joy Aitman which feature 8 layouts by little ol' me!!! *happy dance*
Love and Marriage and Heritage are self explanitory titles which they aim to provide the scrapbooker with inspiration for these themes! Very pleased with the books and especially the photography of the layouts *more happy dances*

Oh and the beads...... I'll mention later!!! ;)

I know it's been AGES!!!!!
Life has been lovely and hectic recently and as the Easter weekend weather was SO wonderful we've been overhauling the garden!!
Getting back on track with Bloggy land though!

Playing at LAST!!!!

After feeling a bit 'blurrrgh' for the few days and having DT stuff to do I hadn't had a chance to PLAY with my March ScrapaGoGo kit. Well yesterday was the day and I dived into my yellow box with glee. The first papers I came across were the soft, vintage blues of the Daisy D's which were perfect for these piccies of my boys. I experimented for the first time with the Hambley overlays and went mad layering up the lovely Daisy D's cardstock tags! Result 2 layouts completed super quick!

New Dare - MakeOver!!

The new Dare is up at Everyone is Speshal. We had to do a makeover take something and turn it into something else. I used Prima type flowers and QuicKutz to make a 3D Flower Imp- fiddly to do but fun. It was nice to revisit my toy making days!
